Welcome to the B.A.D.: Where being BAD has never been so good!
At first glance, our name might raise an eyebrow or two. You might ask yourself “The B.A.D.?" or think “THAT’S IRONIC,” given that our essence is about building, creating, and uplifting. Rest assured that our undeniable responses would be, “YES!” and “INDEED!”
Yes– The B.A.D. stands for Business & Arts Development.
Indeed– We find the irony, uniquely captivating and representative.
In the symphony of acronyms, we believe that ours stands tall as a powerful declaration of our purpose and a perfect representation of our personality. By nature, our work in empowering artists to build successful and sustainable businesses from their creative talents is singular and a challenge to social norms and expectations. It aims to redefine the public's perception of art and the role artists can play in society which parallels the way colloquial language allows us to reinvent traditional definitions of words.
If in colloquial language, "Bad" can mean EXCEPTIONAL, POWERFUL, and UNAPOLOGETICALLY GOOD (think "Bad Bitch" or "Bad Ass."), then in the realm of art and social activism, we believe it can serve the same purpose. We proudly embrace the irony in our name, determined to craft not Ironic, but ICONIC futures and possibilities for our Artistpreneurs.
Empowering Artists: Our Unique Approach and Vision
We recognize that an art career has long and often been seen as a passion-driven pursuit with limited financial rewards. We aim to change that perception and bridge the divide between artistic talent and economic success by empowering aspiring creatives to maximize their potential as business leaders. This mission is driven by a thorough understanding of the challenges artists encounter, through our experience, we have identified critical barriers preventing artists from reaching their full potential as leaders:
Economic Stability: Many artists struggle with financial insecurity limiting their ability to invest in their craft and stifling their capacity for impact.
Entrepreneurial Vision & Mindset barriers: Various social norms and structural obstacles prevent artists from recognizing their work as a marketable resource or seeing themselves as entrepreneurs and leaders.
Educational Gaps: Traditional arts education has historically displaced non-conventional artists and excluded career paths in or with social impact. It still often lacks comprehensive entrepreneurial training
Traditional career pathways for artists often lack the Essential Support Structures, such as Employee Resource Groups, structured onboarding, professional development, leadership training, capacity building, mentorship, and on-the-job training, which are vital for success in other fields.
As a result, the Social Norms and Expectations that typically arise from these support structures—like peer mentorship, on-the-job training, a learning curve, probationary periods, and clear career development paths—are also missing.
Filling the Void: Our comprehensive support system
The B.A.D. is committed to equipping artists with the tools, networks, knowledge, and hands-on experience to face and overcome these obstacles and thrive as "Artistpreneurs."
Leveraging a robust network and the expertise of executives across various industries, we offer a comprehensive support system that includes:
RESOURCE ACCESSIBILITY: Creating awareness about funding opportunities, providing guidance and instruction on business tools, and creating professional networks that are typically out of reach for independent artists.
ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAINING: Offering workshops and seminars led by executives from various industries that provide insights and guidance in essential entrepreneurial skills, financial literacy, marketing strategies, project management, and leadership development tailored specifically for artists.
LEADERSHIP AND SKILLS TRAINING: Knowledge and training in strategic development, project management, and organizational structure and execution, empowering artists to address future challenges with confidence and autonomy
COMMUNITY BUILDING & MENTORSHIP: Creating a supportive community and network of artists that encourages mutual growth and success by emphasizing collaboration over competition.
COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS: Encouraging cross-disciplinary collaborations that showcase artists' talents in innovative ways, amplifying their visibility and marketability
SOCIAL IMPACT INITIATIVES: creating partnerships between artists, businesses, and communities to boost local economies and foster self-sustaining and longstanding ecosystems of support.
We encourage open communication, collaboration, and mentorship to ensure artists can confront future challenges with confidence and mutual support.
